Callings and Crushings

Updated: May 20

Oftentimes when God anoints you for an assignment first there will be a crushing of your spirit.

Crushings are not for the weak of heart, but they seem to be a necessary sifting for your mantle to be authentic, humble and powerful.

When I read the story of Joseph in Genesis 37-50, I think about all the years he endured to finally reach the position in the palace where his costly anointing was used to serve others.

His crushing was not easy because his assignment was not easy.

It all started with abandonment at the hands of his brothers. Their decision landed him in slavery for many years. All that he had known was changed in an instant. He missed his father terribly. He must have wept many nights not understanding why.

He was being crushed for his anointing oil which would eventually come forth and serve many.

He was being taught to not ask “Why”, but to ask instead, “What do you want me to learn from this?”

During your crushing season, the Lord is working.

He is teaching you, just like He was teaching Joseph how to respond to adversity.

Joseph wrestled with unforgiveness. Certainly, there had to have been days where he hated his brothers for what they had done.

But God did not allow Joseph to stay there.

He taught him how to allow forgiveness to work its way through his emotions.

Just when he thought he had forgiven, here comes another injustice at the hands of Potiphar’s wife. He was thrown into prison for a crime she claimed he committed. He was forced to deal with a tarnished reputation that was filled with falsehood all the while sitting isolated in a cell with the Spirit of the Lord crushing him for a good purpose.

He was being crushed for his anointing oil which would eventually come forth and serve many.

I wanted to encourage you on your journey, if you are called to mend the broken-hearted, the Lord will first allow your own heart to be broken.

Your isolated time with the Lord and working through your pain will teach you how to repair your own heart and then one day the broken hearts that will stand before you. When you lay your hands on them and pray for their pain to end, you will understand why you were crushed.

Your anointing oil will eventually come forth and serve many.

I believe in you,

Love, Barbie
